Promote sustained, inclusive and sustainable economic growth, full and productive employment and decent work for all.
According to current data, more than 200 million people worldwide are unemployed, including young people in particular. Work and economic growth are key factors in the fight against poverty. The promotion of sustainable growth, a green economy and the creation of sufficient decent jobs, while respecting human rights and planetary boundaries, are key issues for developing countries as well as for emerging and developed economies.
Goal 8 includes sub-goals on economic growth, increased productivity and the creation of decent jobs. Forced labour should be combated and modern slavery and human trafficking should be ended by 2030. Moreover, sustainable economic growth must not be achieved at the expense of the environment. Goal 8 therefore calls for the global improvement of resource efficiency in consumption and production and aims to decouple economic growth from environmental degradation.
