Winterthur – Stadtwerk Winterthur is to install further photovoltaic systems on the roofs of four municipal properties. They are expected to produce around 254 megawatt hours of electricity per year. The city council is providing funds totaling CHF 707,000 for the construction.

Stadtwerk Winterthur can start building four more photovoltaic systems. They are to be installed on the roofs of the Winterthur Theater, the Wülflingen swimming pool, the Mattenbach elementary school and the temporary Tössfeld gymnasium, the city’s energy and water supplier announced in a press release. Together, the four new plants will generate around 254 megawatt hours of electricity per year.

Stadtwerk Winterthur is responsible for the construction and operation of the facilities. They will be financed from the 90 million framework credit of the city of Winterthur, which was approved by the Winterthur electorate in September 2012. The city council is providing a total of CHF 707,000 from this pot for the construction of the four specific facilities. The expansion of solar energy serves the city of Winterthur’s goal of achieving net zero CO2 emissions by 2040. ce/hs
