SENS eRecycling launches recycling of e-cigarettes

Zurich – SENS eRecycling has developed an industry solution for the recycling of e-cigarettes. The foundation has already been able to win over the vast majority of manufacturers and importers. Retailers and consumers are now being called upon to join in.

Many consumers of e-cigarettes are not aware that e-vapes are electrical devices with lithium batteries, valuable raw materials and harmful substances, writes SENS eRecycling in a press release. The privately organized association for the sustainable recycling of discarded electrical and electronic equipment has developed an industry solution with which e-cigarettes can be recycled for their valuable raw materials and the environmentally friendly disposal of their harmful substances. SENS eRecycling has already been able to get more than 70 percent of the companies that manufacture e-cigarettes in Switzerland or import them into the country on board.

“We are proud that major players such as British American Tobacco and Elfbar have also joined our industry solution within a short space of time,” says Sabrina Bjöörn, Deputy Managing Director of SENS eRecycling and project manager for the new industry solution, in the press release. “We now have the necessary power to tackle the waste problem throughout Switzerland and get it under control in the long term.”

The next step is to involve retailers and consumers of e-vapes. Sales outlets can obtain so-called vape recycling bags from SENS eRecyling free of charge and send the filled collection containers to SENS eRecycling by post, also free of charge. Consumers should be informed via leaflets and collection boxes of their legal obligation to return empty e-vapes to a sales outlet. ce/hs
