According to Michael Gerber, the understanding of sustainability has changed in recent years. As ambassador and special representative for Switzerland’s international commitment to the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development, he is particularly well placed to assess this.
For Michael Gerber, Ambassador and Special Envoy for the 2030 Agenda, it is central that the 2030 Agenda and the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) bring about a new integrative approach to sustainability. Moreover, these are no longer limited to the three-dimensional model ‘economy, environment, society’. Rather, the SDGs now increasingly include other dimensions such as peace, the rule of law and partnerships.
According to Michael Gerber, in order to move forward in the agenda, dimensions must be addressed as a whole. At the same time, this new way of looking at things represents great potential for companies. The new perspective offers them the opportunity to discover new business opportunities. Thus, the 2030 Agenda’s incentive to innovate in a way that puts sustainability at the core of business activities can help open up new markets.
