According to Michael Gerber the understanding of sustainability has changed in recent years. As ambassador and special representative for the international Swiss commitment to Agenda 2030 for sustainable development, he can assess this particularly well. For him, it is central that Agenda 2030 and the goals for sustainable development (SDGs) are now producing an integrative approach to sustainability. Moreover, these are no longer limited to the three-dimensional model ‘economy, environment, society’. Rather, SDGs now increasingly include other dimensions such as peace, rule of law or partnerships. To move forward on the agenda, all dimensions must be addressed as a whole. At the same time, this new approach represents a great potential for companies. The new perspective offers them the opportunity to discover new business opportunities. Thus, the stimulus for innovation provided by Agenda 2030, which is intended to put sustainability at the heart of business activities, can help to open up new markets.
