Winterthur – Designwerk has landed the largest order in the company’s history. The Winterthur-based electromobility specialist will deliver 26 fully electric waste collection vehicles to the city of Zurich.

Designwerk has won a tender from the city of Zurich for 26 fully electric waste collection vehicles with low-floor cabins, the Winterthur-based electromobility specialist announced in a press release. According to her, Designwerk is the only supplier that can meet the high requirements for the vehicles and has therefore prevailed against the competition. The order volume is not specified in the announcement. However, it represents the largest order in the company’s history to date, writes Designwerk.

“Winning this tender confirms our technological leadership position with regard to commercial vehicles, which are not ‘off-the-shelf’ and increasingly stand out from OEM series vehicles,” said Reto Schmid, Head of Sales E-Truck Europe South at Designwerk Technologies AG, in the press release. “Thanks to our flexibility and our great depth of knowledge and manufacturing expertise, we are able to meet the increasingly complex requirements placed on vehicles.”

The winning LOW CAB Collect 6x2R 450E from Designwerk is characterized by a low wheelbase of 3450 millimetres and a battery capacity of 450 kilowatt hours. The electric vehicles are also equipped with on-board chargers. Designwerk intends to hand over the LOW CAB Collect 6x2R 450E to the City of Zurich in stages as soon as it is completed. All 26 waste collection vehicles must be delivered by the end of 2027. ce/hs
