Bern/Bangkok – The Wyss Academy for Nature at the University of Bern is collaborating with the Regional Centre for People and Forests in Thailand. The goal is to promote livelihoods and conservation in Southeast Asia.
The Wyss Academy for Nature, based at the University of Bern, has agreed to a new collaboration with the Regional Centre for People and Forests(RECOFTC), according to a post on LinkedIn. The RECOFTC is a Bangkok-based non-governmental organization that promotes sustainability and reforestation in Southeast Asia. RECOFTC also hosts the Southeast Asia Hub of the Wyss Academy for Nature, which is currently located at Kasetsart University in Bangkok.
Under the new collaboration, Wyss Academy for Nature and RECOFTC plan to join forces to support livelihoods and conservation in Southeast Asia. According to the statement, it has already launched its first joint projects in Nan Province in northwestern Thailand. There, RECOFTC is working on innovative financing mechanisms to support reforestation. Further projects are in the planning stage. In doing so, the Wyss Academy for Nature and RECOFTC also plan to collaborate with local research partners.
The Wyss Academy for Nature aims to find better ways “to turn knowledge around climate change, species loss and inequitable land use into concrete solutions,” according to the organization’s website. In addition to Southeast Asia, it also has hubs in East Africa and South America. In total, the Wyss Academy for Nature already has more than 60 employees. ce/ssp
