Investment in sustainable infrastructure and in scientific and technological research increases economic growth, creates jobs and promotes prosperity. Over the next 15 years, infrastructure projects worth billions of euros are due to be implemented in developing and emerging countries. Objective 9 is about building resilient infrastructures and promoting sustainable industrialisation and innovation.
In order to make infrastructures and industries sustainable, resources are to be used more efficiently and clean, environmentally compatible technologies and industrial processes are to be promoted by 2030. Technology development, research and innovation are to be supported, particularly in developing countries. It also aims to ensure access to financial services, including affordable credit, for small industrial and other enterprises. The integration of small industrial and other enterprises into value chains and markets should be increased. Finally, universal and affordable access to the Internet should be provided in the least developed countries.
