Zurich – Menu and More AG sets validated climate targets to reduce greenhouse gas emissions in accordance with the Science Based Target Initiative. This makes the catering provider a pioneer in its industry.
By 2030, Menu and More AG (menuandmore) has set itself the goal of reducing greenhouse gas emissions caused directly and indirectly by energy suppliers by 42 percent compared to 2022. According to the media release, all other indirect emissions generated in the value chain are also measured and reduced. Concrete measures have been defined to achieve this: These include the purchase of new electric vehicles and the procurement of fossil-free heat generation for the Ecopark Tivoli site in Spreitenbach AG. By 2030, the entire vehicle fleet will be emission- and CO2-free.
The basis for the climate protection strategy is a balance sheet according to the Greenhouse gas protocol, which was carried out by climate experts from ClimatePartner. The reduction targets were validated according to the Science Based Target Initiative (SBTi). A science-based approach to reducing greenhouse gas emissions is necessary to effectively address climate change, according to menuandmore. However, only seven SMEs in Switzerland had taken this step of SBTi verification by the end of 2022, according to a WWF study. Managing Director Markus Daniel is quoted as saying: “As a provider of catering for children and young people, we have a special responsibility. We want to provide the generation we supply with our fresh menus today with a future worth living as well.”
menuandmore is part of the Swiss gastronomy group Eldora and, with the help of 68 employees, supplies around 580 school and daycare center lunch tables in German-speaking Switzerland with menus. According to its own statements, the company committed itself to sustainable corporate management as long as twelve years ago. Among other things, the menus pay attention to environmentally friendly food production, seasonal and regional ingredients. ce/yvh
