Dietikon ZH – From spring, Lyreco wants to display the CO2 value of the products offered in its online store. The aim is to promote sustainable purchasing behavior among customers and significantly reduce the company’s CO2 emissions.
Lyreco wants to reduce its own CO2 emissions and encourage customers to change their purchasing behavior by providing CO2 values for its online offerings, according to a press release from the Dietikon-based provider of office and workplace solutions. As a result of the Climate Ordinance in force in Switzerland, the need for product transparency is also increasing in the procurement of consumables. Lyreco’s long-term vision is to promote the sustainable purchasing behavior of its customers and at the same time drastically reduce its own CO2 emissions.
From spring 2024, products in Lyreco’s online store will be labeled with their CO2 value. The value is calculated using a program based on artificial intelligence and relates to the supply chain from purchase to delivery to the customer. In order to be able to provide more accurate data in the future, Lyreco is working directly with the manufacturers to obtain as much data as possible from production. Lyreco’s clear goal is for 76 percent of suppliers to pursue science-based targets by 2026 with regard to emissions from purchased goods and services as well as for transportation and distribution.
As recently as 2023, Lyreco committed to accelerating the development of integrated sustainable business solutions through the circular economy by 2025. For this purpose, the company offers a free take-back service. It is designed to help customers “reduce non-recyclable waste as much as possible.” Returns will be made either when the next order is delivered or upon request to customer service free of charge. Collection boxes are provided free of charge. ce/gba
