Cham ZG/Wellington – Landis+Gyr has acquired Thundergrid New Zealand, a charging infrastructure specialist based in the New Zealand capital Wellington. This acquisition is part of Landis+Gyr’s growth strategy with regard to solutions for electromobility.

Landis+Gyr has acquired Thundergrid New Zealand. The Cham-based energy management company is thus taking a further strategic step to strengthen its position with regard to electric vehicle (EV) infrastructure in Australia and New Zealand.

Thundergrid is a Wellington-based charging infrastructure specialist. According to a Landis+Gyr media release, Thundergrid’s commitment to removing barriers to electric vehicle adoption stems from its experience in the power sector. Landis+Gyr sees it as strategically advantageous that Australian and New Zealand markets have high penetration of renewable energy sources and New Zealand is aiming for net zero by 2050.

“The acquisition is a critical step in the development of our EV solutions” in Australia and New Zealand, David Maclean, senior vice president of Landis+Gyr Asia Pacific, is quoted as saying. For Thundergrid CEO and co-founder Jonathan Parker, “combining our locally developed intellectual property with the support of a global leader in energy management solutions means we can drive mass adoption of electric vehicles without overloading the power grid.”

Next to the company name, the header of Thundergrid’s website already reads “a Landis+Gyr company.” Underneath, the company writes: “Still a New Zealand company. Still experts in EV charging infrastructure. Newly strengthened by 127 years of Swiss reliability.” ce/mm
