Freienstein ZH – Kyburz won the Parcel and Postal Technology International Award in the Environmental Achievement of the Year category at the Parcel+Post Expo. The company received an award for its environmentally friendly process for recycling batteries.
Kyburz has received an award at Parcel+Post Expo for its battery cell developed in collaboration with the Swiss Federal Laboratories for Materials Testing and Research(Empa). It consists partly of recycled material obtained from batteries of decommissioned Swiss Post delivery vehicles in a process that conserves resources and protects the environment. For its innovative approach, Kyburz was awarded the Parcel and Postal Technology International Award 2023 in the Environmental Achievement of the Year category, the Freienstein-based company informed in a statement.
The honor at what the company says is the most important global event for parcel delivery, e-commerce logistics and the postal industry honors “Kyburz’s outstanding efforts in the field of battery recycling and circular economy,” writes the mobility and transport solutions specialist. The award was accepted by CEO Martin Kyburz together with Head of Battery Recycling Olivier Groux and Marketing Manager Jasmin Giger.
In the process developed by Kyburz and Empa, used batteries are broken down into their components and returned to the production cycle. In this process, the batteries are not shredded as in conventional processes, but the raw materials are separated through optimal discharging, careful cell disassembly and purification using water. In this way, more than 90 percent of the recyclable materials can be recovered in pure form, Kyburz explains on its website. ce/hs
