Basel – The Department of Economic, Social and Environmental Affairs of the Canton of Basel-Stadt is ushering in the second round of its Food Save project. The search is on for 15 catering businesses that want to benefit from expert advice on the subject from the fall of 2023.
The Department of Economic, Social and Environmental Affairs of the Canton of Basel-Stadt is launching a second round of its Food Save project, the department informs in a statement. In the first round, 26 professional kitchens had worked intensively over several months to reduce their food waste. Even with simple measures, around 35 percent of food waste could be avoided on average, is the department’s conclusion on the first round.
For a second round starting September 4, 2023, 15 catering businesses in Basel-Stadt are now being sought. They can benefit from around a year of expert advice on measuring and analyzing their food waste. In the announcement, the department highlights the program’s particular suitability for canteens, home and hospital kitchens. One third of the participation costs of 3000 Swiss francs per company are covered by the canton. For those interested, the canton has more information and a registration form available online.
Like the first round, the second round of the program will be accompanied by the United Against Waste association. The cooperative Lebensmittel Netzwerk Basel is also taking part with its project Feld zu Tisch. hs
