Engadine power plants plan solar plant at reservoir

Zernez GR – The Engadine power plants are investing 300,000 Swiss francs in a photovoltaic system at the Punt dal Gall dam. The 460 modules have an output of 190 kilowatts/peak and are expected to generate around 230,000 kilowatt hours. Construction is scheduled to begin in November.

Engadiner Kraftwerke AG (EKW) is building further photovoltaic plants. According to the Zernez-based electricity producer, it is planning a photovoltaic plant at the Punt dal Gall dam with an installed capacity of 190 kilowatts/peak and an annual production of 230,000 kilowatt hours.

The 460 modules are to be installed on the retaining wall next to the road between the south tunnel portal and the guard house in Punta del Gall. The area faces south and can also use the reflection of the lake and in winter the snow. This makes the system ideal for generating solar power in winter, he said. The infrastructure for feeding the electricity into the grid is already largely in place thanks to the dam.

The photovoltaic system is subsidized by the federal government and the canton as part of the Solarexpress subsidy program. Assembly is scheduled to begin in November.

EKW is also working with the municipality of Scuol and Energia Engiadina on the ScuolSolar open-space project in the Scuol ski area. ce/stk
