Plan-les-Ouates GE/Abu Dhabi – Deasyl is building a demonstration plant in Abu Dhabi for its innovative solution for upgrading glycerin, a by-product of biodiesel production. Among other things, the biotech company is presenting this sustainable development for the chemical industry at the energy fair there.

Deasyl will demonstrate the capabilities of its technology in Abu Dhabi, the capital of the emirate of the same name and the United Arab Emirates (UAE). The biotech company from the canton of Geneva develops solutions to make the chemical industry more sustainable. For example, it has patented an innovative process for upgrading glycerin, which is a by-product of biodiesel production.

According to a company release, the company, founded in 2017, is now ready for the next step, the construction and operation of an industrial demonstration plant. It has chosen Abu Dhabi as the location for this. Deasyl attributes this to the UAE’s great willingness and ambition to be a pioneer and reference in the sustainable chemical industry and as an energy producer. This, he said, is coupled with a strong industrial base and a local, sustainable financial network.

The company, founded in 2017, will showcase this demonstration plant and other of its technologies at the World Future Energy Summit in Abu Dhabi from January 16-18. The energy fair is embedded in Abu Dhabi Sustainability Week, which runs from January 14 to 19.

Deasly’s technologies are designed to make production processes more efficient, reduce pollution and energy consumption, and “help create a strong circular economy with environmentally friendly manufacturing processes.” To this end, the start-up is working to secure patents that can subsequently be resold to chemical companies. mm
