Wil/Uzwil SG/Lenzburg AG – Circular Food Solutions AG has been named the region’s innovation champion by Wirtschaftsportal Ost. The joint venture between Bühler and CN & Partners produces meat substitutes from brewer’s grains.
The company Circular Food Solutions Switzerland has been chosen as the innovation champion of the region 2023 at the WPO-Impuls 2023 of the Wirtschaftsportal Ost(WPO). This is the first time a food innovation has emerged victorious from this annual event, according to a media release. The WPO acts as a link between business and politics in the Wil region.
The joint venture of the Uzwil-based Bühler Technology Group and CN & Partners from Lenzburg, which was founded in July 2022, narrowly won the public vote ahead of the dual support program Class Unlimited of Bühler and the Wil-Uzwil Vocational and Continuing Education Center and Kemaro AG with its industrial cleaning robot.
Circular Food Solutions produces a meat alternative based on recycled brewer’s grains from Switzerland. “For decades, brewer’s grains were used as animal feed,” Johannes Wick, CEO of the Grains & Food business unit at Bühler, is quoted as saying in a statement from his employer. Now it is being recycled “to produce healthy and tasty meat alternatives.” Circular Food Solutions’ products are reportedly naturally rich in fiber, protein and trace elements.
The partners are “committed to a sustainable way of life” and demonstrate this through their actions, according to Swiss entrepreneur Christoph Nyfeler, founder and owner of CN & Partners. The original idea of using spent grains in this way came about as part of an innovation competition at Bühler. The start-up was then spun off from the Bühler Group. ce/mm
