Plastic Capture & Repurposing
One of Chemolex’s flagship initiatives involves intercepting plastic waste from river systems before it reaches the ocean. By installing twelve custom-designed plastic capture devices across four rivers in Kenya, the organization has successfully removed more than 65,000 metric tonnes of plastic waste. This recovered material is repurposed into fencing poles, paver blocks, and eco-lumber used in furniture production. The initiative not only mitigates environmental damage but has also created direct employment opportunities for over 5,000 women and youth in informal settlements.
Biopactic – A Biodegradable Alternative
Chemolex has developed Biopactic, a next-generation, fully biodegradable material designed to replace conventional plastics such as polypropylene, polyethylene, and polyester. Produced through a patented Advanced Precision Bio-conversion Technology, Biopactic uses invasive water hyacinth as its primary raw material. The result is a sustainable packaging solution applicable across sectors — from food and product packaging to diapers, sanitary products, and fashion threads — offering a viable alternative to plastic polymers.
Community Empowerment & Green Innovation
Central to Chemolex’s impact strategy is the integration of community-based programs. Through initiatives like school greening, public park rehabilitation, and the deployment of mobile mini-grids, Chemolex fosters local participation in environmental stewardship. These efforts enhance public spaces, promote eco-education, and extend clean energy access, while simultaneously offering economic opportunities to marginalized groups.
