Zurich – The canton of Zurich wants to accelerate the electrification of mobility. To this end, it is launching the charging infrastructure funding program. Here, private individuals, companies and municipalities can apply for funding. The Zurich Chamber of Commerce welcomes the project.
The canton of Zurich has launched a program to promote the installation of charging infrastructure. For this purpose, the canton provides funds in the total amount of 50 million Swiss francs, informs the cantonal Department of Economic Affairs in a statement. The funding program is intended to accelerate the electrification of road transport and thus contribute to achieving the canton’s climate policy goals in the transport sector. According to the press release, around 40 percent of greenhouse gas emissions in the canton of Zurich are currently generated here.
“Electromobility is in a dynamic development, however, the charging infrastructure is an important key for switching to an electric car,” Director of Economic Affairs Carmen Walker Späh is quoted as saying in the statement. “For the further and rapid spread of electromobility, the availability of charging options is therefore quite crucial.”
The program provides 500 francs for the basic infrastructure at the company’s own parking lot and 2000 francs for the installation of a bidirectional charging station. Communities are supported with up to 3000 francs per parking space and 450,000 francs per community. Companies can get funding to equip company parking lots. The canton accepts corresponding applications on the online portal Building Program.
The Zurich Chamber of Commerce(ZHK) welcomes the project: “Mobility is and will remain important – but it must become sustainable,” says a corresponding statement by the ZHK. ce/hs
