Bern – Boum received a total of 1.3 million Swiss francs from private and institutional investors in 2022. The funds will be used to develop new products for urban plant cultivation. Just in December, a new irrigation system for balconies and terraces was introduced.

Boum raised a total of 1.3 million Swiss francs from private and institutional investors in several steps in 2022, the Bern-based start-up for urban plant cultivation informed in a statement. The funds are to be used for the development of the market and new products. “We are very pleased that we can count on an interdisciplinary investor network that also supports us as a founding team with its expertise,” Jeremias Jurt, CEO of Boum AG, is quoted as saying in the release.

The company, which was founded in 2021 as a spin-off of the University of Bern, wants to make growing plants on balconies and terraces possible even for people without green fingers. To do this, Boum relies on a combination of technology and ecology. Just in December, Boum Zwöi, a new irrigation system for balconies and terraces, was introduced.

Boum Zwöi’s planter and water tank are made with 80 percent recycled material, the young company explains. Irrigation is solar powered and automatically controlled by a water tank. The robust seeds for herbs and vegetable plants, specially adapted to the system, are organically grown, and the flowers offered are local Swiss mixtures. In addition to climate protection, Boum also wants to contribute to biodiversity. hs
