
Lucerne/Gersau SZ- The association BirdLife Lucerne and the association Pro Rigi have received this year’s environmental award of the Albert Koechlin Foundation. The ceremonial handover will take place on June 16. The prize is endowed with 40,000 Swiss francs. It recognizes the commitment to conservation.
The BirdLife Luzern association and the Pro Rigi association based in Gersau are the winners of the 2023 Environmental Award of the Albert Koechlin Foundation(AKS) based in Lucerne. They will each receive 40,000 Swiss francs in prize money at the awards ceremony on June 16, according to a media release.
Accordingly, the jury of the environmental award honors for the 18th time “the commitment to our environment and the sensitization of the population through diverse educational offers in the field of nature conservation”.
In this way, the Pro Rigi Association is honored for its commitment to the development of the Rigi region in harmony with nature. The association conveys the nature of the mountain world Rigi during excursions. Pro Rigi guards supervise and look after the plant protection area. On a flower trail, visitors and residents learn about the diverse flora of the region.
Under the umbrella of BirdLife Lucerne, 20 local nature and bird conservation associations are united. More than 3000 members are united in the association. They are committed to the protection of nature and landscape as well as the promotion of biodiversity in the canton of Lucerne. For this purpose, they organize natural history education and training as well as youth work. In doing so, they hope to both raise awareness and inspire participants to engage in conservation at the community level.
