Baden AG/Seoul – The Korea Marine Transport Company Ship Management (KMTC SM) consumes 1350 tons less fuel per year than before thanks to Accelleron’s digital solution for optimizing the engines on twelve container ships. This corresponds to cost savings of 540,000 dollars.

The Baden-based company Accelleron has achieved significant savings in fuel consumption and CO2 emissions for the shipping company KMTC SM, based in Seoul, South Korea. According to a statement from Accelleron, the shipping company reports that its Tekomar XPERT digital solution for optimizing ship engines on twelve container ships has saved an estimated 1,350 tonnes of fuel over a period of twelve months. This has also enabled KMTC SM to reduce its CO2 emissions by around 4,200 tons.

Tekomar XPERT provides recommendations for engine optimization based on thermodynamic findings. These recommendations are aimed at restoring the motors to the operating performance they achieve when new. According to the information provided, the solution can be applied to all engines and turbochargers. KMTC SM had followed the recommendations, monitored engine performance and benchmarked engines and vessels via Tekomar XPERT’s web portal called Loreka.

Jin-Seob Lee, General Manager of Environmental Technology at KMTC SM, therefore intends to “install Tekomar XPERT on our remaining 16 self-managed vessels and we will recommend installation on 22 additional vessels managed by third parties”. Accelleron expects KMTC’s fuel costs to fall by around 1.3 million dollars per year when Tekomar XPERT is used on all 50 vessels. ce/mm
