ABB launches new home charging station

Zurich/Baden AG – The technology and automation group ABB is presenting Terra Home, a new charging solution for e-cars, at the CES trade show in Las Vegas. It is able to automatically give preference to renewable electricity. It also ensures that only the company’s own vehicle is charged.

ABB will showcase its new Terra Home home charging station for electric vehicles at CES 2023 in Las Vegas. The most important international electronics and technology trade fair will take place from January 5 to 8. The new Terra Home station is designed to offer users “unparalleled choice and flexibility, enabling even more people to make the switch to electric mobility easily and in style,” Leon van de Pas is quoted as saying in a media release.

The senior vice president of ABB E-mobility’s Destination Charging business unit points to a survey commissioned by ABB ahead of CES. At the same time, 86 percent of drivers surveyed worldwide had said they planned to actively reduce their travel emissions in the new year – most by increasing their use of public transportation and switching to an electric car.

Terra Home is reportedly able to automatically prioritize electricity from domestic renewable energy sources, such as solar power. According to ABB, this accommodates those 54 percent of respondents who would be more likely to use an e-car if they knew it was powered by renewable electricity.

The small square charger identifies the owner of the cars. Access can also be controlled via the ABB E-mobility Charger app. In addition, the device can be easily updated and maintained remotely via the cloud. mm
